But then it struck me that I should not be surprised. Satan is so crafty that he always gets people who want to be spiritual to divert their attention to doing God's work without walking with God. Today is Friday and I have had a long couple of weeks. Right now I am in the process of building a shed in my off time so I am kind of worn out. Thus this will be a shorter post.
I want to give a few reminders to my apologetic buddies to keep in mind
- Psalm 119:11-- "Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You." We are still sinners and struggle like everyone else. Make sure you are treasuring God's Word and not just arguments to support God. A purely intellectual faith will not lead you that far. Yes God wants us to worship him with our mind but let us not forget He wants our hearts too.
- Psalm 119:15--"I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways." God's Word is not like the syllogisms you memorize to defend the faith. You must make it your discipline to meditate, not just read, God's Word. It is not something to simply memorize. God's Word is not a book to study like we do math. It actually teaches us a better way to live and convicts us of our sinful ways. In essence it is God calling us to constant action. You have a duty to understand what God is calling you to do.
- Psalm 119:26--"I have told of my ways, and You have answered me; Teach me Your statutes." As apologists we are often good at telling of God's ways but not continuing to learn. Sure we love to pick up the next book by Ravi Zacharias or William Lane Craig but are we as eager for the lessons from God? The Lord is still very active in this world. Deism couldn't be further from the truth. May we constantly ask God to teach us through His Word, our Christian brothers, and life circumstances.
- Psalm 119:35--"Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it." The best argument for the existence of God is the disciple's holy life. Nothing will kill your witness opportunity faster than to act in an unworthy manner. Allow God to continue to shape you and mold you. Nobody wants to hear truth if it is coming from an obnoxious snot of a person. We want people to be attracted to God and the best way for them to see God's character is it exemplified in our life.
