About the author
I’m Billy Dyer a Teacher and Preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This is my blog page. It is focused on “user-friendly apologetics”. Apologetics is that branch of study which defends or gives an answer for the Christian Faith. This can range anywhere from defending the reliability of the Bible, scientific evidence for a designer, to philosophical answers to the problem of evil.
There are a lot of different resources out there but sometimes they can get very technical. My goal is to take a “common sense” approach. I want to make sure the everyday Christian can give an answer for the hope that is in them (1st Peter 3:15). In other words, my approach is not to the professional philosopher but to the everyday person we meet on the streets. What are their questions? What walls do they have? How can we answer those in a tactful, loving, but truthful manner?

I didn’t really grow up in the church. Sure my parents took me there when I was younger but I fizzled out in my teenage years. It wasn’t until I was 18 that I began attending again. At first it was only to date a girl I was interested in. You can say that was the Lord’s way of getting me in His listening range. Once we broke up I stopped going to church again. But this time I had a community of people who wanted to show me the love of Christ. I received a post card from one of the youth leaders at church. It was simple and sweet; she missed me, hoped work was going well and hoped to see me soon. This floored me. Someone was out there who I really didn’t know but cared enough about me to reach out?!?!
It took me a few more weeks but after work on a Wednesday night I decided, on a whim, to go to youth group. I walked in the back of the room and stood there unnoticed. As I listened to them sing their songs it finally hit me. These people had something I did not have…joy. At that moment I noticed the hole in my life. I began searching, seeking, knocking and asking. It took a few more months but once I had answers to my questions I recognized there were dire consequences to my life. So on March 23, 2003 I was baptized into Christ (Acts 2:38), began my new life and have never looked back.
I can always remember having a passion for knowledge. I think it stems from recognizing that I was deceived my whole life thinking that belief in God was good enough. So ever since I was converted to Christ I have not stopped seeking answers to my questions and the questions of others. It is my passion and desire to present good answers to those who are honestly seeking. This is why I have dedicated my life to studying not only God’s Word but also the subjects by which I can defend His Name and His Word.
In preparation for this life of service I attended Mid-Atlantic Christian University (formerly known as Roanoke Bible College) where I received an Associate Degree in Bible. Then I transferred to Summit Theological Seminar where I gained a Diploma of Biblical Studies and Bachelor of Sacred Literature. Once I graduated I took a full-time preaching position at Severn Christian Church in Maryland. I was there from 2010-2016. In that position I was been able to continue my studies. I have read over 40 books in the Apologetics arena spanning Christian authors like William Lane Craig, Alvin Plantiga, Frank Turek, Norman Geisler, etc… Also non-christian authors such as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, etc… I have been able to weigh the arguments on both sides which has only strengthened my conviction that God is real, the Bible is true and Jesus is the Christ.
Professionally I have many sermons posted online which you can find on my youtube channel.
